Shelestie is a mixed breed between Shetland Sheepdog and purebred West Highland White Terrier. It is a medium-sized dog that has a thick, double-layer coat and is water repellent. The fur of the dog is in different colors varying from brown, black, cream, and tan. Sometimes they can be brindle or speckled. Shelestie weighs from 10 to 20 pounds and reaches a height of 13 inches. In case, it grows more than that, the Shelestie will look like a miniature Collie with a long wedge-shaped head with the narrow muzzle. It has dark eyes in almond shape and also has a black nose. They owe strong and muscular bodies.

This breed is energetic and has strong herding instincts. Some are jumpy and may not be suited for small children without training.

Shelestie is counted among the intelligent canines that have affectionate nature and it enjoys living close to the family. History


Shelestie is a hybrid breed and a mix of Shetland Sheepdog and West Highland White Terrier. The Shetland Sheepdog belongs to Shetland Island that lies between Norway and Scotland. The ancestors of Shetland used to be Scottish Collie and King Charles Spaniel. They were used on airports, runways, or Golf courses to clear the flyaway the birds. The first ever Shetland Sheepdog was named Lord Scott that got registered in 1911 by American Kennel Club. The West Highland White Terrier was a Scottish dog that was used for ratting and hunting. This white colour breed was bred to ensure that they may not get mistaken with a fox. Kennel Club of England recognized this breed in 1906 and American Kennel Club recognized it in 1909.

Maintenance


Shelestie is a regular shedder and therefore demands higher maintenance when it comes to grooming. Brushing it at regular intervals maintains the life of coat and makes it look attractive and good. Shelestie inherits the double coat feature from both of its parent. The harsh outer coat of this breed protect them from the weather and also repel water. They are not fond of bathing regularly. Well, trimming is must to these canines at short intervals around the eyes and ears and near the feet. Check the ears for dirt and tangle them out. The teeth must be brushed regularly and nails must be trimmed as they grow long.

Shelestie belongs to those energetic breeds that are fond of playing. They require regular exercise to stay healthy and fit. They enjoy going for walks, playing with kids and take part in activities like Frisbee and flyball. It is must to keep an eye on this canine so as to ensure that they are not after any small creatures. These pups are not suitable for living in apartments as they are prone to spend most of their time out in the open. In case you adopt it, it will be better to take them regularly for a walk.
